DFSR & DFSN Basics

DFSR

- Distributed File System Replication
- Used to Replicate the Data
- Only available in Windows 2003 R2, Windows 2008 and WIndows 2008 R2
- Replaces File Replication Service for DFS in Windows 2003 R2, Windows 2008 and WIndows 2008 R2
- Replaces File Replication Service for SYSVOL in Windows 2008 and WIndows 2008 R2
- There are lot of changes between FRS and DFSR

Replication Group: Logical Name given to a Replicated Folder or Replicated Folders
Replicated Folder: Actual Folder being Replicated suing DFSR

DFSN

- Distributed File System Namespace
- Used to Access the Data
- Configuring DFSN does not esstentally means that you start using DFSR to replicate that data as well
- You have to specifically configure replication for that data
- There is not much change between DFS and DFSN. Both are use to "Access" the data

Namespace: The starting point of DFSN which the users will use to access the data. Ex: file://contoso.com/
Folder: The way of grouping data into different logical links. Ex: file://contoso.com/HR, file://contoso.com/Ops
